Acting Class 10

2016 October 12. Wednesday.

What is this?

Notes on today’s acting class. Theatre 126. University of Kentucky. Fall 2016. Professor Matthew J Schneck. These incomplete notes are not endorsed or proofread by Prof S or UKY.

Scenes from plays

On Wednesday, Prof Schneck broke the twenty of us into ten pairs and gave each pair two copies of a short scene from a play. He wrote notes on them and cut sections out, very customized. Today, five of the ten pairs performed.

  1. Chase and Summer were Adam and Jenny from The Shape of Things. Jenny is engaged but she loves Adam and she kisses him. After a couple redos, Chase delivered a perfect “… Shit! …” after the kiss. And Summer had a perfect quiet sad “you’re welcome”.
  2. Steven Perry and Jaime were brothers living in the same room because their cousin Nora moved into the house. Steven was 15 and Jaime was 18. Steven was learning about masturbation (what it is, who does it, if it’s okay or not) from Jaime and it was very very funny. Jaime added in a country accent. It worked well, but it wasn’t in the spirit of the original play, so Schneck made him cut it. Was interesting to see Jaime go from there.
